Dear GSRs,
We have received a call from a skilled nursing center in South Austin for a monthly Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. This is a unique community so the meeting but one where the clients requested AA. It will be an Open meeting and I have literature there. We really have a great opportunity to reach out and touch the hearts of individuals who are often forgotten. (See pamphlet on Special Needs) .
The meeting will be a once a month at 3:30 (when clients can come). I know this may knock some out of the possibility but I hope we can find individuals able. We will begin February (the third Monday of the month) . If that doesn’t work or if you have a strong desire to participate but the time is impossible, please let me know. We may have a little wiggle room….may.
If you are interested or if your group wants to be responsible for a 3 month commitment (or more) please call me. I will fill you in on what is needed, the address, etc. Because it is a skilled nursing center we really want to hold ourselves to a high standard regarding filling these spots. The facility is about 4-5 (at most?) blocks from Western Trails and easy to get to for us.
Please consider this opportunity. It was an old timer who developed Alzheimer’s and the commitment to his care that broke down my fears and avoidance to those individuals who look and sound ‘perfect.’ No it was not easy at first, I was scared and I did have to do some step work The last time I had been in a nursing home was when I was 12 and it was a small town nursing home where pain medication was not what it is today. It left me with heartbreaking emotional scars. But caring for Woody was the gift that opened so many doors to a world I did not even know was possible. And yet it became not only a great gift, but it became one of those life changing events – the one you speak about from the podium. (My Sponsee’s, at the time, also joined me in that journey; thank you Rosi.)
Again, it is an once a month meeting in South Austin at a skilled nursing center (individuals are able to get to meeting and communicate. Open AA meeting committed opportunity (A one-three month commitment at first with possibility of more)). Specific information when you call.
